Occupations By Field : Language and Communication

This field includes careers to do with language and the use of language in speech or writing as a means of reporting events, influencing ideas or entertaining. Careers requiring language are found in various media forms including in newspapers, magazines, journals, publishing houses, radio, film and TV, and the internet. Other careers are found in diverse areas of business, from banking (translation) to government (diplomatic services). Careers in language may be classified according to the types of skills or ability required: 1. Careers requiring the technical use of language, for instance, the ability to edit, proofread, translate text, present information, debate topics and educate a group. Examples include editor, lecturer, TV presenter etc. 2. Careers requiring the creative use of language, for instance the ability to create text or stories using the imagination. Examples include poet, play-write and actuality journalist.
